Pipe Branches allow two downpipes to merge into one.
Pipe Connectors used to join two lengths of downpipe in a straight run.
Rainwater Hoppers decorative collection points for gathering water from multiple sources into a single downpipe.
Cast aluminium downpipe is designed as a direct replacement for cast iron downpipe on period properties. The key advantages are weight (roughly a third of cast iron, making installation safer and faster), maintenance (aluminium never rusts and never needs painting, cast iron needs repainting every 3 to 5 years), lifespan (40 year guarantee vs no guarantee on most cast iron), and colour (any RAL colour available, not just black). From ground level the appearance is virtually identical to painted cast iron.
Cast Aluminium vs PVC Downpipe
Standard PVC downpipe from FloPlast, Osma, or Marshall Tufflex is lighter and cheaper but has a smooth plastic finish that does not replicate the appearance of cast metal. For period properties, listed buildings, and conservation areas where the rainwater system needs to match the heritage character of the building, cast aluminium downpipe is the appropriate choice. For standard domestic properties where appearance is less critical, PVC is the more cost effective option.
What colours is it available in? Any RAL colour. Most popular are black (RAL 9005) and anthracite grey (RAL 7016). The downpipe is powder coated to match the gutter for a consistent appearance.
How long does it last? 40 year guarantee, same as the gutter system. Well maintained cast aluminium regularly lasts 50+ years.
Can I connect cast aluminium downpipe to underground drainage? Use a drainage adaptor to connect to standard 110mm underground drainage pipe.
Can I mix cast aluminium downpipe with existing cast iron? Yes. Adaptors are available to connect cast aluminium to existing cast iron pipe. This is a practical solution when replacing part of a system while the remainder is still in good condition.
Is cast aluminium downpipe suitable for coastal areas? Yes. Aluminium performs exceptionally well in coastal environments. Use stainless steel fixings in marine locations.
Is cast aluminium downpipe heavier than PVC? Yes, but significantly lighter than cast iron. Cast aluminium is roughly a third of the weight of cast iron. Two people are not normally required for installation as they would be with cast iron.
