Single roof ladders are designed to lie flat on the roof surface and hook over the ridge tile, providing safe footing and a stable platform for working on pitched roofs. Unlike extension ladders which lean against the wall, roof ladders distribute your weight across multiple tiles and prevent damage to the roof covering. Essential for any work that requires access to the roof surface itself, including gutter repairs from above, tile replacement, flashing work, and chimney maintenance.
At Gutters.co.uk we stock single roof ladders for fast UK delivery.
Ridge Hook a heavy duty hook at the top of the ladder that flips over the ridge tile, anchoring the ladder securely to the roof. The hook distributes the load across the ridge.
Single Section one fixed length section. Choose the length based on the distance from the eaves to the ridge of your roof.
Aluminium Construction lightweight for easy lifting onto the roof. Strong enough to support working loads.
Wide Rungs flat or wide profile rungs for comfortable footing on a sloped surface.
Wheels some models include wheels at the ridge hook end so the ladder can be pushed up the roof surface before flipping the hook over the ridge.
Use a single roof ladder whenever you need to work on the roof surface itself. Common tasks include accessing guttering from above when fascia access is restricted, replacing broken or slipped roof tiles, repairing lead flashing around chimneys and valleys, fitting or repairing TV aerials and satellite dishes, clearing debris from valleys and behind chimney stacks, and inspecting the roof for damage after storms.
A roof ladder is always used in combination with an extension ladder. The extension ladder gets you from the ground to the eaves, then the roof ladder provides safe access on the roof surface itself.
Single roof ladders are a fixed single section. Double roof ladders have two sections that extend to cover longer distances from eaves to ridge. Choose a single roof ladder for standard pitched roofs where the distance from eaves to ridge is within the ladder length. Choose a double for steeper roofs, wider roof spans, or when you need to reach further past the ridge.
Double Extension Ladders for getting from the ground to the eaves.
Triple Extension Ladders for reaching the eaves on taller buildings.
Double Roof Ladders extending roof ladders for steeper or wider roofs.
How do I get a roof ladder onto the roof? Lean the roof ladder against the wall next to your extension ladder with the hook end pointing down. Climb the extension ladder, then pull the roof ladder up and slide it onto the roof surface. Push it up the roof until the hook reaches the ridge, then flip the hook over the ridge tile.
What length roof ladder do I need? Measure the distance from the eaves to the ridge of your roof. The roof ladder should be at least this length so the hook reaches the ridge while the bottom of the ladder sits at or near the eaves.
Can I walk on a roof without a roof ladder? Not recommended. Walking directly on tiles risks cracking them and creates a slip hazard, especially on wet or mossy roofs. A roof ladder distributes your weight and provides secure footing.
Is a roof ladder required by law? For professional tradespeople, the Work at Height Regulations 2005 require appropriate equipment for safe access on roofs. A roof ladder is the standard method for pitched roof access. For DIY work, it is strongly recommended for your own safety.
Can I use a roof ladder on any roof type? Roof ladders are designed for pitched roofs with ridge tiles. They should not be used on flat roofs (not needed), thatched roofs (specialist access required), or roofs with fragile coverings like asbestos cement without additional precautions.
