Cast iron box guttering is a square profile cast iron gutter with a flat base and straight sides. Box gutters were traditionally used on commercial buildings, public buildings, and larger residential properties where a more structured, angular appearance was preferred over half round or ogee profiles. The flat base provides excellent water carrying capacity and the square profile sits neatly against the fascia. Supplied primed and ready for painting.

When to Use Cast Iron Box Gutter
Box gutters are less common than half round or ogee on domestic properties but are found on certain types of building. Common applications include commercial and industrial buildings from the Victorian and Edwardian era, warehouses and workshops with traditional cast iron rainwater systems, public buildings such as schools, libraries, and municipal buildings, residential properties where the original installation used box profile, and properties where a square, angular appearance suits the architectural style better than a curved profile.
Other Cast Iron Profiles
112mm Half Round standard profile for most domestic period properties.
Victorian Ogee decorative S shaped profile for period facades.
Is box gutter the same as a parapet gutter? No. A parapet gutter is a concealed gutter built into the roof structure behind a parapet wall. Cast iron box gutter is an external gutter fixed to the fascia board like half round or ogee, but with a square profile.
Does it need painting? Yes. Supplied primed, must be painted before installation and repainted every 3 to 5 years to prevent rust.
