Gutter brackets are the fixings that secure your guttering to the fascia board. Choosing the correct bracket for your gutter system is essential for a secure, long lasting installation. The wrong bracket can cause guttering to sag, leak, or pull away from the building over time.

Types of Gutter Brackets

Fascia Brackets the most common type of gutter bracket. Fascia brackets screw directly into the fascia board and the gutter clips into the bracket from above. Used on the majority of domestic PVC guttering installations. Available for half round, square line, deepflow, and ogee profiles.

Union Brackets a combination of a bracket and a joint. Union brackets connect two lengths of gutter together while also fixing to the fascia for support. Essential at every joint between gutter lengths.

Rafter Brackets used where there is no fascia board. Rafter brackets fix directly to the roof rafter and the gutter sits on top. Common on open eaves properties, barns, and older buildings without fascia boards.

Top Rafter Brackets similar to rafter brackets but fix to the top of the rafter rather than the side. Used where access to the side of the rafter is restricted.

Rise and Fall Brackets adjustable brackets that allow you to set the exact height and fall of the gutter without packing. Useful where the fascia board is uneven or where precise fall adjustment is needed.

Cast Iron Gutter Brackets heavy duty brackets designed for cast iron guttering systems. Available in fascia fix and rafter fix versions. Must be strong enough to support the significantly heavier weight of cast iron gutter and water.

Aluminium Gutter Brackets brackets for aluminium guttering systems including Alumasc Heritage cast aluminium and Marley Alutec Evolve extruded aluminium. Available in matching powder coated finishes.

Steel Gutter Brackets brackets for Lindab steel guttering systems. Available in all Lindab colours to match the gutter system.

How to Choose the Right Gutter Bracket

The bracket you need depends on three things: the material of your guttering system (PVC, cast iron, aluminium, or steel), the profile of your gutter (half round, square, ogee, or deepflow), and how your gutter will be fixed (fascia, rafter, or top rafter). Brackets are not universal across brands. A FloPlast bracket will not fit Osma guttering and vice versa. Always match the bracket to the exact brand and profile of gutter you are using. Bracket Spacing Guide

Correct bracket spacing is essential for a secure installation. Brackets that are too far apart will cause the gutter to sag, especially when full of water or snow. The maximum recommended spacings are:

Half round PVC guttering: brackets every 600mm maximum.

Square line PVC guttering: brackets every 600mm maximum.

Ogee PVC guttering: brackets every 500mm maximum.

Deepflow PVC guttering: brackets every 500mm maximum.

Cast iron guttering: brackets every 900mm to 1000mm maximum (check manufacturer guidelines).

Aluminium guttering: brackets every 600mm to 900mm depending on system.

Always fit a bracket within 150mm of any fitting including stop ends, angles, unions, and outlets. In areas with heavy snowfall, reduce the spacing between brackets for additional support.

Gutter Brackets FAQ

How many gutter brackets do I need? Divide the total length of your gutter run by the bracket spacing for your system (600mm for half round/square, 500mm for ogee/deepflow) and add one. For example, a 6 metre run of half round guttering needs 6000 divided by 600 plus 1 = 11 fascia brackets, plus a union bracket at each joint.

Can I reuse old gutter brackets? No. Old brackets should always be replaced when fitting new guttering. Different systems use different bracket designs, and old brackets may be weakened or corroded. Fill old screw holes before fitting new brackets.

What screws should I use for gutter brackets? Use 25mm x 5mm round head brass or zinc plated screws. Two screws per bracket. Do not use steel screws on fascia boards as they will rust and stain the fascia.

Can I use FloPlast brackets with Osma guttering? No. Different brands use different bracket designs and clip mechanisms. Always match the bracket to the exact brand and profile of gutter. If joining two different brands, use a gutter adaptor at the transition point.

What if I don't have a fascia board? Use rafter brackets or top rafter brackets instead. These fix directly to the roof rafters and support the gutter without needing a fascia board. Common on barns, open eaves properties, and older buildings.

Do I need a bracket at every joint? Yes. Every joint between two gutter lengths requires a union bracket which both connects the gutter and fixes to the fascia. Never leave a joint unsupported.
